Open data about distances between stations

Rijden de Treinen has a matrix with all distances between railway stations in the Netherlands. The matrix with distances is based on number of fare units between railway stations. The distance is always the shortest route on the network. The same distance is also used to calculate prices for tickets.

Description of the data

This dataset is a large matrix with all railway stations in the Netherlands (represented by their station code, which you can find in the railway stations dataset). The matrix lists the distance of the shortest route between each station. There are also tables which limit the routes to a specific operator, which means the shortest route may be longer or there may be no route available at all.

The following conventions are used in the dataset:

  • Number: the distance between two stations.
  • ? (question mark): there is no route available between the two stations.
  • XXX: the two stations are the same station.
